The animal sounds are a huge hit at our house — my son figured out which piece goes where just so he could hear each voice again. I like that there's a matching picture underneath every piece, so he's learning the animals even when the sound is off.
The sound only plays when the piece clicks into the right spot, so my daughter actually learns the animal names instead of just mashing pieces. The picture underneath helps her self-correct too, which keeps her focused for way longer than I expected.
My 2-year-old figured out within a day that the animal pieces only sing when they're placed in the right spot, and now she does the whole board just to hear the lion roar. The matching pictures underneath help her when she gets stuck. Battery's still going strong after a month of daily use.
